Silverlens is pleased to return to Art Basel Miami Beach this December for our third participation, once again exhibiting in the fair’s Nova sector dedicated to highly curated presentations of new works by contemporary artists. On view will be a duo presentation of works by Bernardo Pacquing and Nicole Coson. Pacquing and Coson share a profound engagement with the ubiquitous cast-offs of contemporary life, be it the detritus of urban Manila or the instruments of global trade, transforming discarded materials into abstractions that speak to urban development and global economies. Together, they reflect on the unseen journeys, human and economic, that lie hidden in the materials surrounding a world shaped by human industry. Art Basel Miami Beach will take place at Miami Beach Convention Center, from 3 - 7 December, 2025. Bernardo Pacquing (b. 1967, Tarlac, Philippines; lives and works in Parañaque City, Philippines) is a seminal figure in Philippine contemporary art, known for transforming the refuse of Metro Manila into raw works that blur the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and architecture. His practice filters Brutalism and Abstract Expressionism through a distinctly Filipino ethos of resourcefulness and repair, resisting the sanitized aesthetics of global urban development in favor of a language shaped by time, wear, and improvisation. For Art Basel Miami Beach, Pacquing presents new canvases from his ongoing Blossoms series, that translate the structure of a flower in bloom into gestural fields of house and oil paint. The use of house paint, an everyday material tied to labor and maintenance, anchors the work in lived experience, turning it into a metaphor for renewal and decay. Accompanying the paintings are charcoal drawings on paper, where tree silhouettes take shape in light, feathery strokes that feel both precise and impermanent. Pacquing’s presentation at Art Basel Miami Beach celebrates the closing of his first U.S. solo exhibition, Causal Loops, at Silverlens New York (September–October 2025). Nicole Coson (b. 1992, Manila, Philippines; lives and works in London, United Kingdom) uses vessels from the global commercial system as printing tools, creating “accidental woodcuts” that explore labor, identity, and circulation. Her newest series, on view in Miami, is her most ambitious yet, made from shipping container doors inked in her East London studio and pressed with her body onto monumental raw canvases. Functional objects become abstract surfaces stripped of utility, exposing a critique of commodification and the artist’s visibility within the market. For Coson, opacity resists confession, even as traces of her labor—knees, pressure marks, smudges—merge mechanical process with human touch. For the first time, she introduces color, using industrial pigments like orangé de Chine and carminée de quinacridone to evoke warmth while flattening form into pop commodity aesthetics. These container prints balance two kinds of labor, the visible bravado of painting and the unseen work of global trade, as Coson searches for emotional depth within surfaces that remain resolutely closed. Her presentation at Art Basel Miami Beach precedes her inclusion as one of six artists in the 40th anniversary exhibition of ESEA Contemporary (February 2026), the UK’s leading institution dedicated to East and Southeast Asian contemporary art.
