Our Contemporary Art auction on 26 and 27 November achieved a total of €9,515,800. The Evening sale alone reached the highest total since 2008 with a total value of €7,713,375 across just 58 lots with 80.4 percent of sold lots.
Enrico Castellani experienced great success with many works of different colours and dates of execution dominating the sale. Most noteworthy was his Superficie Bianca, executed in 1965, which more than doubled the high estimate of €390,000, selling for €901,500. Lucio Fontana's white Concetto Spaziale surpassed pre-sale expectations achieving €793,500, far above the estimate of €300,000-400,000.
Additional top lots included Mario Schifano's Palo Alto from 1960, which sold for €421,500 and an Alberto Burri, which realized €301,500 from an estimate of €250,000-350,000. A world record at auction was achieved for Mario Ceroli, whose wooden work fetched €87,900 above an estimate of €50,000-60,000. |
