Booth S09
Axel Vervoordt Gallery is pleased to participate in l-long Kong Spotlight
by Art Basel with a solo presentation ofJapanese artist Yuko Nasaka
(b. 19 38, Osaka). ln collaboration with Fine Art Asia, this unique platform
is a united response to support and bring together the city’s visual arts
community during these challenging times.ln addition to the main stand, Axel Vervoordt Gallery will also present a large-scale installation by artist Kimsooja (b. 1957, Daegu, South Korea) at the project space of the fair. Untitled (1991) is an environmental installation of seven metal rings covered by used clothes and threads that has been shown previously in Korea in 1991, and a second time last year at the gallery’s inaugural l-long Kong exhibition.
"While sewing has a repetitive circular wrapping action around fabric, the Deductive Object series (in this case, Untitled) uses specifically designed metallic structures relating to connected canvas frames in a circular form that enwrap the space, drawing the space as an invisible sewing practice. This series has been done with intuitive and urgent energy as if l were a Shaman. However, l realised that l was able to make this series as sewing itself has the 'notion of wrapping’ in it and the object wrapping series were an expansion of the ‘notion of sewing’ for me”.
