Allen Jones (*1937) gehört zu den bedeutendsten und international bekanntesten britischen Künstlern. Gemeinsam mit seinen Studienkollegen R.B. Kitaj, Peter Philipps und David Hockney, war er 1961 entscheidend am Durchbruch einer neuen figurativen künstlerischen Position beteiligt, die unter dem Begriff Pop Art in die Kunstgeschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts eingegangen ist. Die Beschäftigung mit den Themen des Fetischismus und der Obsession findet Widerhall in Jones` Sujets aus Sport und Tanz, für die er das Spannungsverhältnis zwischen Figuration und gestischer Abstraktion auszunutzen weiß.
Ausgestellt werden aktuelle Arbeiten auf Papier und Leinwand, Skulpturen, sowie Grafikmappen. Anlässlich der Ausstellung erscheint eine Publikation im Kerber Verlag mit einem Textbeitrag von Jonas Beyer. Mehr Infomationen: Michael Kaufmann,

Allen Jones (*1937) is one of the most significant British artists on the international stage. With his fellow college students R.B. Kitaj, Peter Phillips and David Hockney he participated in the development of a new attitude to figuration in 1961, which became a major stepping stone in the history of Pop Art.
The engagement with the topics fetishism and obsession resonates in Jones` subjects of dance and sport imagery that exploit the tension between figuration and a gestural abstraction. On the occasion of the exhibition a catalogue is published at Kerber Verlag.
