For our New Positions sector we are very proud to present the Iranian artist Pourea Alimirzaee (*1988 in Teheran, lives and works in Vienna).
His paintings are concerned with the theme of fragile masculinity, also known as toxic masculinity and often center around a specifically created figure - a figure between woman and man, who looks very much like the long-haired young artist. For Alimirzaee this kind of masculinity refers to certain cultural, tradi-tional and stereotypical male norms that can be very harmful for men, women and society. Additionaly, it addresses the position of men who act feminine but are not gay. For the artist himself, stereotypes and the image of the "real man" have been a struggle whilst growing up and living in Iran and he started to ex-plore this struggle when he came to Vienna. Despite this supposedly difficult subject matter, Alimirzaees paintings deal with the lighter sides of life and imagni-ation. He is a story teller, depicting human experiences and relations.
