Daata and David Lewis Gallery will present four digital artworks by Felix & Gabe, the first four NFTs in the artists’ Vomitorium collection. These artworks are holographic playing cards that feature characters from their mythological Vomitorium universe.
Vomitorium consists of four holographic playing cards featuring characters from ancient Greek mythology: Onkos, Metaxy, Eros, and Anteros. These shining charms are collectable elements from their 6-hour, three-channel film of the same name, which debuted in 2020 at The Kitchen, New York and was later presented at LUMA, Westbau.
Felix & Gabe play theatrical characters in dialectical tension with each other’s fantasies. Their multifaceted approach to composition encompasses theater, film, poetry, and digital media. Taking apart the formal parameters of essay and installation, they highlight structural impasses inherent in multimedia hybridity. Their ongoing work analyzes of madness and mimesis in queer performance, challenging staid discourses and affective assumptions.
Their work has been presented at the Kitchen, LUMA Westbau, MOCA Los Angeles, Issue Project Room, Anthology Film Archives, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Reena Spaulings Fine Arts (Los Angeles), and Pilar Corrias Gallery (London). At the Whitney, they staged and performed Bernstein’s libretto Bieber Bathos Elegy in 2016 and Mayo Thompson’s Victorine (with Art & Language) for the 2012 Whitney Biennial.
