For Independent 2022, Nicelle Beauchene Gallery is pleased to present an intergenerational dialogue on abstraction between two American artists: Brooklyn-based Ruby Sky Stiler (b. 1979) and Gee's Bend Quiltmaker Rachel Carey George (1908-2011). Alongside six new mixed-media relief paintings by Stiler, the gallery will present an historic quilt by Carey George from the 1970s. Both artists employ material processes that piece together disparate forms, be they scraps of fabric or paper, to think through patterning as a tool that weaves abstraction with narrative potential.
