Galerie Chantal Crousel is pleased to present the fifth solo exhibition of Clément Rodzielski, with a new series of work. The artist continues his exploration into the uses and mechanisms of images, from mode of apparition to potential destiny.
For the exhibition, Clément Rodzielski has created paintings cut in half. Painted from a single piece, taking the shape of a continuous ribbon, they are then displayed splitted. Like visual communication or continuous data flow, the artist draws out his paintings in time, proclaiming in one and the same gesture both their appearance and eclipse. They generate an image which unravels in an infinite mental reiteration. “The paintings owe a lot to streaming, in other words, the ability of things to be manufactured, uploaded and appear all in one go.” —C. R.
Other objects orbit around the paintings, including sculptures made with bowls to which the artist applied layers of paint. As they slowly rotate, these works reflect a sort of protocinema inspired by magic lanterns or Greek ceramics.
