DC Moore Gallery is pleased to feature works by Jacob Lawrence and Romare Bearden in The American Art Fair's American Art Week, May 15-22 online celebration.
Recognized as one of the most original artists of the twentieth century, Romare Bearden (1911-1988) has work in public collections across the country, and has had a number of major retrospectives. In 2020 the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, showcased the exhibition Something Over Something Else: Romare Bearden's Profile Series, which traveled to the Cincinnati Museum of Art, OH. The Neuberger Museum presented new Bearden scholarship in their 2017 exhibition and publication, Romare Bearden: Abstraction. The American Federation of the Arts will travel a large version of this exhibition to American museums this year. In 2011, The Studio Museum presented a groundbreaking exhibition The Bearden Project, exhibiting over 100 artists, to showcase the vast influence Bearden has had for generations.
Jacob Lawrence (1917–2000) is one of the most prominent American painters of the twentieth century, and his work is held in public collections throughout the country. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York recently exhibited Lawrence's rarely-seen 1954-56 Struggle Series paintings in the exhibition, Jacob Lawrence: The American Struggle, which is traveling to museums throughout the country. Other recent exhibitions include One Way Ticket: Jacob Lawrence's Migration Series at The Museum of Modern Art in New York (2015) and Between Form and Content: Perspectives on Jacob Lawrence and Black Mountain College at The Black Mountain College Museum and Arts Center in Asheville, NC (2018–19).
