Galeria Luisa Strina is pleased to announce a selection of works for Frieze NY that highlights the constructive and productive efforts on the basis of contemporary Latin American art. Results, in some cases, of the global context of the pandemic and, in others, of a previous reflection on the adversity from which we live – to use Oiticica's expression. The works of Marcius Galan, Clarissa Tossin, Pedro Reyes, Laura Lima and Alexandre da Cunha gathered here reveal in their exposed statement the process that constitutes them: a hesitant balance, a primordial weave contaminated by post-industrial rubble, pure cotton entangled in pieces of coal, combinations of material that put the eye in check. It is a group of works that takes on decolonial resistance while flirting with modernist influences. The works of Marcellvs L. and Alfredo Jaar add a lyrical and ambiguous content to the set; the luminosity contained in them indicates its opposite: the fragility of certainties in today's world.
