For the Frieze New York Online Viewing Room, Night Gallery is pleased to present new work by Danielle Mckinney, Anne Libby, and Tahnee Lonsdale. Across three distinct practices, these artists draw from art history, collapsing imagery toward an examination of contemporary subjectivity and selfhood. Danielle Mckinney's paintings find the intersection between the history of painting and the dissemination of photography on social media, creating works whose figures serve as stand-ins for the self. Anne Libby's satin wall tapestries evoke contemporary architecture in relation to the individual, drawing in the crafting tradition of quilting, modern architecture, and Art Nouveau, the late 19th-century movement which embraced the innovations of technology in the domestic sphere. Paintings by Tahnee Lonsdale incorporate geometric abstraction, traditional portraiture, and illustration to create iconographic representations of human emotion. As a whole, these three artists' works speak to the agency of the individual amid an influx of imagery, an expansion of technology, and a historic moment of transformation.
