James McNeill Whistler (1834–1903), Campanile at Lido, 1879, pastel and charcoal on brown paper, 8 x 11 ⅞ in..
For the 13th Annual American Art Fair, nearly 50 new to the market works exhibited by 24 premier specialists in American Art are now on view via the fair's website.
The gallery is featuring Chatham Square by Collin Campbell Cooper, one of the artist's last great paintings of Modern New York. Combining his love of architecture and transportation, the artist features the Manhattan Municipal Building (built between 1909 and 1914 by McKim, Mead & White), the Third Avenue Elevated subway, and the convergence of Mott Street, the Bowery, Division Street, and East Broadway at Chatham Square. Filled with figures ranging in age and social class, the painting is an eyewitness account of the comings and goings of the people and the magnificence of New York City as it transformed with the progress of new technology and modern industrialization.
In addition to the works featured on The American Art Fair website, the gallery is offering a selection of works by Milton Avery, Thomas Hart Benton, Albert Bierstadt, Oscar Bluemner Theodore Earl Butler, Lockwood de Forest, Eve Drewelowe, Francis William Edmonds, Henry Farny, William Glackens, Childe Hassam, Robert Henri, Winslow Homer, Luigi Lucioni, Alfred Maurer, George Of, Guy Pene du Bois, Maurice Brazil Prendergast, John Singer Sargent, Clyde Singer, Florine Stettheimer, Max Weber, Julian Alden Weir, and James McNeill Whistler via our own website and online viewing rooms.
