Photographers Fabiano Parisi and Isabelle Van Zeijl will present a duo show in which they explore the dense layering of history: Unpacking the Beauty of Age.
Born and raised amongst Roman ruins, surrounded by ancient melancholy, Parisi’s photographs portray bygone lifestyles: resorts, villas, theatres. He travels across America and throughout Europe capturing beautiful enigmatic places that we may never see. His photographs, taken at the same time of day, are a commentary on disappearing places of sociability, spaces abandoned, forgotten, replaced by non-lieus: places with no memory.
Van Zeijl’s photographic self-portraits take female beauty ideals from the past & sabotages them in the context of today. Subject to a meticulous process of digital post-production, her portraits can be mistaken at first for subversive paintings by Dutch Golden Age Masters. Her orchids also summon 19th Century Dutch explorers who studied Asian flora & unleashed the European frenzy for exotic flowers.
