Stand D05
The project of the Fernandez-Braso Gallery at ARCOl isboa 2019 focuses on two specific moments in the careers of José Manuel Broto (Zaragoza, 1949) and José Maria Sicilia (Ma drid, 1954). From Broto, a series of works on paper produced in the current time, in which digitai printing and painting coexist in the same piane of pictorial interest, exemplifying the connections between art, technology and painting. From Sicilia, some works from his mythical series la luz que se apaga (The light that goes out), which was started at the end of the nineties and is now considered one of the high points of Span ish abstract painting in recent decades.
The careers of the two artists share recogn i tions and relevant facts. Sicilia received the National Prize of Piastie Arts in 1989, Broto in 1995. Both nave exhibited individually in the Palacio de Velazquez of the Reina Sofia Museum , the former in 1988 and the latter in 1996. More recently, they have each received the National Graphic Art Prize, awarded to Si cilia in 2015 and to Broto in 2017; and the To mas Francisco Prieto Prize,awarded to Sicily in 2017 and to Broto in 2018.
