Booth X2-18
Sabrina Amrani participates for the first time in Abu Dhabi Art presenting a solo exhibition by Chant Avedissian.
In this presentation, the gallery brings a 2013 monumental work never seen before from the artist's series Cairo Stencils, one of the many few works where the artist included a self portrait, and four new works from the Transfer, Transport, Transit series executed in late 2016 and never exhibited before either.
The gallery's represented artist Manal AlDowayan will present a major project in Al Ain for the Beyond: Artist Commissions fair sector.
Chant Avedissian is currently on show in a large retrospective titled Chant Avedissian. A Levantine heading East in Casa Árabe Madrid, which will last until February 2018 and which is a proposal by Sabrina Amrani.
Chant Avedissian has exhibited individually at the National Museum of African Art -Smithsonian Institution, Washington (USA) in 2000, at theTropenmuseum, Amsterdam (Neatherlands) in 1996 and at the Institut du Monde Arabe en Paris (France) in 1990.
Some of his selected group shows are: Adventures of the Black Square: Abstract Art and Society 1915–2015, curated by Iwona Blazwick and Magnus af Petersens at the Whitechapel Gallery, London (UK) in 2015, Arabicity, at the Beirut Exhibition Centre, Beirut (Lebanon) in 2010 and Taswir -Pictorial Mappings of Islam & Modernity, at the Martin Gropius-Bau Museum, Berlin (Germany) in 2009.
His work is in very prominent public collections such as The British Museum (UK), Mathaf Museum of Modern Art (Qatar), National Museum of African Art - Smithsonian Institution (USA), the British Airways Collection (UK), National Museum of Scotland (UK) and the Tropenmuseum, Amsterdam (Neatherlands) , amongst others.
