Due to the impact of the global epidemic, Lin She Gallery will participate in the "Online Gallery Unit" of the West Bund Art Fair in the fall of 2020, exhibiting the "Sun" series of works by artist Zhao Zhao.
Following the 2017 "Self-Portrait" series, Zhao Zhao used his unique painting vocabulary to create five seemingly different themes: "The Evil", "Father and Son", "Bamboo Shoot", "Grandpa Gives You a Story" "" and "Peach" are closely linked to the same narrative logic. All parties act as cause and effect, as well as motives, entangled with each other, and yearn for each other, so as to outline the contradictions and viciousness of life to the viewer, but also sweet and ambiguous. Dialectical path with deep philosophical thinking. There are as many appearances as there are in the painter's life.
Before breaking the soil, the bamboo shoots have to wait a long time in the dark winter to develop and grow. It must fight hard to fight against nature and see the sun and spring rain. After breaking the ground, it grew low and sturdy, and its dark body was covered with mud. When it is not open, it has all kinds of possibilities, and it is full of unknown power, gestating everything. This is the tension of the bamboo shoots, the dull growth, a symbol of ambition in Zhao Zhao's paintings.
Zhao Zhao was born in Xinjiang, China in 1982 and graduated from Xinjiang Art Institute in 2003. Currently lives and works in Beijing and Los Angeles. Zhao Zhao has continued to create in a subversive way from beginning to end. He is keen to use various art media to challenge reality and the traditional conventions of art forms. His works in various fields aim to explore the power of individual free will and the strength of authority control. In his creation, he pays attention to and shows the contemporary China in drastic changes, and faces the pain and pressure of human heart. The concepts of threat and risk appear from time to time in his works, which are a metaphor for people's living conditions in China and the global context, as well as the transient and impermanence in modern society. At the same time, the works also reflect his thinking about the coexistence of collectivism and personal ideals.
