Booth 434
De Buck Gallery will present a booth featuring an exciting selection of new and recent works by Devan Shimoyama, Stephen Towns, Rashaad Newsome, Sharif Bey, and Amani Lewis. The selection will include sculptural works by Bey, collages by Newsome, as well as highlight a number of figurative paintings by Shimoyama, Towns, and Lewis. The work in this booth is emotive and personal, with artists creating pieces that allude to narratives from their own life, the stories of their communities, and the stories of women in their families. The booth especially highlights work that explores and celebrates the lineage of women as creators, mothers, and complex storytellers.
This presentation will be timely given that each of these artists is participating in current or upcoming museum shows. We are proud to announce that Rashaad Newsome currently has a solo exhibition titled 'Black Magic' at the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center and Amani Lewis has a solo exhibition titled 'Subjective Nature' at the August Wilson Cultural Center in Pittsburgh. In October, Stephen Towns' exhibition, 'Rumination And A Reckoning' will open at Art + Practice in Los Angeles, in collaboration with the Baltimore Museum of Art, and Devan Shimoyama's piece, February II, will be included in 'The Hoodie,' an exhibition opening in November at Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam. Looking forward into the next year, Sharif Bey will have a solo exhibition at the Carnegie Museum of Art that will open in the fall of 2020 and run until Spring 2021.
